My wife (Linda)'s father Jan, came from a village named Bunie Poland, but we can not find this on any map. His name was Jan Babicz, born 1st November 1928. There were 6 children in the family including Jan's sister Weronika. When WW2 began the mother and four children were sent to a Russian orphanage we think. Jan and Weronika were taken to Germany (as workers we believe). After the war Jan went to England and worked in coal mines (residence believed to be Bedhampton Camp, Havant, UK - 1948). Wreaking married in Germany then settled in Adelaide, South Australia. She sponsored Jan to come to Australia. He arrived 15th April 1952. Jan married Barbara Pszczolinski on 27th February 1954. Jan and Barbara had two children Mark (18th October 1955 & Linda 23rd October 1959). Jan died (motor cycle accident) May 1960. Weronika died 28th August 2015. Linda has two children from 1st marriage (Michael 25th April 1983 & Cassandra 28th May 1985). Linda has no known living relatives.
We understand that there were millions of displaced Polish people as a result of WW2. I am a 5th generation Australian and can only imagine the heart break and pain that Polish people went through. The scars will last for a few more generations to come but strength of survival will last forever. I feel so sad that Linda will probably never know her fathers broader family.
If it is at all possible could you provide any information on where Bunie is/was and any Babicz family information. I will understand if you are unsuccessful.
Yours Sincerely
David Reid. reply
