Городище у д. Симохи является самым маленьким на территории Оршанщины. Вероятно, и создавалось (насыпалось искусственно) оно для проведения культовых обрядов. Об этом в какой-то мере свидетельствует само название урочища - Церковище, а также его непосредственное соседство со здешним большим курганным могильником. Упоминается существование на возвышенности городища и "каменной бабы" или "каменной девы", - идола. Согласно местным преданиям, уже давным-давно "каменная дева" покоится в глубинах озера, - отсюда и происходит его название - Девинское.. .
Кстати, судьба "каменной девы" в Симохах весьма типична, - с принятием христианства большая часть идолов была уничтожена, - деревянные сожжены, а каменные разбиты или сброшены в реки, озера, болотные топи…
